How to Achieve Waves with a Flat Iron

We all love wavy hair. Waves are the epitome of effortless beauty, flattering on all face shapes, and give off vibes of romance and laid-back days. But unfortunately, we aren’t all blessed with lovely natural curls. Luckily, with a bit of styling and some great products, we can all achieve lovely, just-stepped-out-of-the-ocean waves at home, no matter your hair type. Read on for our guide to getting waves with a flat iron.

How To Get Flat Iron Waves

Before getting started, make sure you have in your hair kit, the right tools, like one of the GHDs

Step 1 - make sure you protect your hair with a heat protectant. To ensure you cover all of your hair and not just the top, we suggest you tie up a half pony, spray through the bottom lengths, then remove your hair tie and spray through the top of your hair.

Step 2 - section your hair with a horizontal section from ear to ear and clip or tie the top section up.

Step 3 – grab a section of hair about 4cm wide and place your flat iron at the roots, pointing down.

Step 4 – close the iron and rotate a half turn away from the face. Glide the straightener down towards the ends of your hair to create a curl. If you want a tighter curl, create more rotations as you pull the hair through.

Step 5 – repeat throughout the hair, and at the face to create soft, face-framing curls.

Step 6 – let the curls cool down so the hair can firm up and your waves will hold.

Step 7 – brush through with fingers or a wide brush to soften depending on your desired look.

Step 8 – the extra fun part – you can choose to style your curls loose, pin half up half down or add some fun features such as braids or face framing clips.

Step 9 – finishing products – it’s very important you use a texturizing spray to set your look and add some texture. A little goes a long way but helps to give your waves that much needed body. Finish off with a light touch of hairspray and enjoy!
