How to treat your hair at home

Need some TLC? Self-care is in. At-home treatments are a great way to give yourself some “me-time”. Book in some time, perhaps on a Sunday evening to look after yourself from tip to toe and let yourself enjoy the process - that’s sure to lift both your mood and your appearance. Here’s our guide to what you need to know about treating your hair at home.

Restoring Moisture

Most of our day to day activities can cause hair to dry out, including heat treatments such as blow-drying and straightening. Hair treatments work to restore the damage from dryness, and lock moisture back into the hair’s cuticle - helping to prevent future breakage. For those with coloured hair, getting moisture back in is particularly important.

Reconstructing Hair

Treatments can also work to help reconstruct hair that is chemically damaged or weak and breaking. This is achieved through the use of protein that helps to heal your hair from the inside out by reconstructing and strengthening hair strands. A protein treatment can also be a great option before you choose to colour your hair, making the hair itself a healthier canvas for colour.

Managing Colour

At-home treatments improve the health of your hair, meaning that your hair retains pigment better. This helps to lock in your hair colour and helps to reduce fade over time. There are also specific at-home treatments for colour management such as keeping blondes bright.

Our Favourite At-Home Hair Treatments

Redken Extreme Anti-Snap Treatment

A leave-in conditioner designed to smoothen the hair cuticle to prevent breakage and to fortify damaged hair. This easy-to-use product provides heat protection while reducing breakage by 75% and leaves hair shiny and silky. This product is a great choice for those with colour treated hair, especially blondes and those who use a lot of heat tools on their hair.

Redken Extreme Mask

Another great choice for colour treated hair. This rinse-out treatment fortifies hair to be fifteen time stronger, and uses Redken’s Strength Complex with Protein and Lactic Acid to restore strength, balance pH levels and add smoothness. To use - apply to towel-dried hair after shampooing, leave on for 3-5 minutes and rinse.

Redken Colour Extend Magnetics Deep Attraction Mask

A sulfate-free hair mask designed to extend the life of your colour while leaving hair softer, detangled and shinier.

Redken Colour Extend Express Anti-Brass Mask

A mask designed specifically for blonde hair. This works to tone (by correcting unwanted brassy yellows) and condition hair to keep your blonde cool, bright and healthy.
