Super Easy Styling Ideas for Short Hair
When it comes to styling short hair, many women fall into the habit of relying on their default cut and not branching out. As great as a well-maintained cut can be, short hair does not have to mean a lack of style. There are plenty of ways to style and level-up your short hair game. So from braids to bubbles, we’ve got you covered.
Why Go Short?
Chopping your locks can be some scary stuff. Hair can be somewhat of a safety blanket, and we certainly know what it feels like to be attached. However, we also know the women who make the cut after decades of hanging on to length. They get the chance to reinvent their look and try entirely new ways of hair styling. They also often get the added bonus of much less maintenance, including shorter hair drying time. And surprisingly, styling can actually be much easier than with longer hair. With a just little bit of product and a small dose of creativity you can easily achieve some super sweet looks and try something new. So in celebration of less-lengthy locks, here are 9 of our favourite styles for shorter hair.
Our Favourite Short Hair Styles
#1 – The Breezy Bob
A bob is an iconic look. It gives off an instant air of class and immediately looks well-put together. To get a smooth look, blow dry your hair with a round brush after washing. Once dry, take medium-sized sections and use a straightener to give a slight bend in the ends, both towards and away from the face. Set with a hairspray. This gives a natural, soft look and adds dynamic to the hair.
#2 – The Ponytail
The humble ponytail is always a winner. Short ponytails can look extra cute and you can make use of bobby pins or interesting clips to pin back any loose pieces. Loosen the hair on your crown to create a bit of volume and pull out some strands at the front to frame your face.
#3 – Soft Curls and Braids
This look is soft, beautiful and simple. To get it, first use a straightener or curling rod to create medium sized curls. Let the curls cool first so they hold. Then brush through with your fingers gently to soften. Create a top section of hair on each side of your head and French braid. Join braids together at the back of your head and pin into place.
#4 – Twisted Half
This style looks sophisticated and romantic but is very easily achieved, especially with second day hair that will hold more easily. Grab two sections of hair right above the ear and tie in the middle of the back of your head with an elastic. Then take another two sections of hair above the ear on either side. Loop these around the hair you just tied off. Repeat with one more section of hair. Finish the look with some hair spray and a light tease. Dry shampoo can also be added for extra texture and hold.
#5 – Bubble Half Updo
It’s a little bit quirky and it’s very cute. To get the look, separate the top half section of your hair into two sections on top of each other. Tie the sections together and gently loosen the hair on each.
#6 – Sleek Chignon
Short hair can still work very well with an updo. First straighten hair then create a middle part. Tie a low ponytail and separate into two sections. Wrap one section into a bun and then the second section around the first. Secure with bobby pins and spray to hold.
#7 – Accessories
Short hair can be the perfect canvas for some decoration. We love a simple headband to hold hair elegantly off the face, as well as 90s style clips that make a statement. Glam it up with something jewelled or sparkly.
#8 – Low and Messy Bun
Simple yet classy and great for any occasion. Gather hair in a low ponytail, twist and create a bun. Use an elastic to secure before messing the whole style out. Pull gently on the bun to loosen and let strands out to frame your face. Add a texturizing spray for extra dynamic.
#9 – Beachy Waves
Beach hair doesn’t need to be long to be beautiful. To get a sexy tousled look, air dry your hair and then section horizontally with clips. Use a curler and alternate the direction with every other section. Allow curls to cool to set, then run fingers through to soften, and apply a holding product or a salt spray for added texture.
