Our tips for growing out your fringe

Fringes can be great. They can give a clean cut feeling to your look with a straight box fringe, or they can give a romantic look with curtain bangs. However, sometimes you just get sick of having hair on the front of your face. Now that the temperature is rising and summer is closer than ever, you may be considering growing out your fringe. So here are our tips for growing out your fringe for summer.

Be Patient

Before you decide to grow out your fringe, it pays to know what kind of timeframe you are working with. Most fringes take around three to four months to grow out (growing about half an inch per month). Summer can be a great time to do this as hair typically grows a little faster and you can get away with more loose and carefree hairstyles.

Try Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs are a great option for when you are transitioning away from a fringe. Try a middle part and curtain bangs which can gradually grow out softly. If you are going from a blunt front fringe, we can help you style this into a softer look which will grow out more easily. Adding some face framing layers will also help integrate this into your overall hairstyle. As your curtain bangs grow you can decide if you want to keep a longer bang, or if you want to grow your fringe out completely to match the length of the rest of your hair.

Embrace Accessories

Growing out a fringe takes a little bit of transition time. When your hair starts to grow too long to sit in front of your face we recommend you style it with hair accessories. There is so much out there now from cute clips to sparkly headbands that you can use to elevate your look. Or you can include your growing fringe into your hairstyle itself with a French braid or side plaits.

Try A Slick Pony

A slick pony is another great option for when you are growing out a fringe. Use a style gel and push your bangs back into a high ponytail. You can use a fine toothed comb for an extra smooth look.

Keep Your Hair Healthy

Keeping your hair healthy is vital when trying to grow it. We recommend a weekly hair treatment and moisture rich shampoo and conditioner daily to help your hair grow healthy and strong and prevent breakage.

We love Redken’s Extreme Anti Snap Treatment – a leave-in conditioner that gently smoothes the hair cuticle to help prevent breakage and fortify damaged hair.

Add Texture and Volume

Adding texture to your fringe will help to soften the hair and allow it to blend more seamlessly into the rest of your hair. We recommend a volumizing dry shampoo to help lift the roots and add some texture.

We love Redken’s Triple Dry 15 Dry Texture Finishing Spray – a perfect product for creating long lasting, effortless beachy volume and texture.

You can also add volume by hair-drying your fringe in the opposite direction to what it is to help provide lift and integration into the rest of your hair.

Spray It

Hairspray is your friend when growing out a fringe. Style your fringe to the side or back and spray a little hairspray on a toothbrush to help smooth and position it.
